Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it...Mal. 3:16

Philosophy of Missions

Summary: Kilgore Bible Church believes the Biblical mandate is for all believers to be involved in reaching others for Christ and discipling believers who in turn will reproduce this model in the lives of others.

As a church body, we take seriously the scriptural command given to Jesus' disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations." (Matthew 28:18-19). We believe the command involves our efforts locally, regionally and all the way to "the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). We are committed as a church body to equip and encourage each believer to impact the world for Christ through teaching about missions, providing regular updates from missionaries who are part of the KBC mission family, and providing opportunities to be involved in missions in short and long term venues.

We believe that our emphasis on missions finds its motivation in the person and work of Jesus Christ who was sent to reconcile man to God. We believe the foundations for our missions emphasis are based on: 1) the compassionate heart of God (Luke 15, John 3:16; I Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9; Jonah), 2) the condition of fallen mankind under the wrath of God who perish apart from salvation (Romans 3: 9-18; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-2), 3) the fact that salvation is found only in Jesus (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 10:43; 1 John 2:2) and 4)the very commands and commission of our Lord(Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; John 17:18; Acts 1:8).

We believe the work of missions is accomplished as we join God in His work through prayer ( I Timothy 2:1; Matthew 9:37-38), financial support (2 Corinthians 8:1-24; 9:1-10), sending believers out on missions (Matthew 10, Acts 13:2-3) and going ourselves as the Lord leads (Matthew 28:18-20).

We aspire to have a missions emphasis that has geographical variety (missionaries locally and overseas), and functional variety (church planters, evangelists, support staff, etc). We purposely have chosen not to focus our efforts on one part of the world or on one missionary function. We affirm the importance of supporting missionaries largely based upon the relationships that God allows us to build with missionary candidates and missionaries, especially those of our own church body. We will consider support to these whose ministry is in keeping with the goals and objectives of KBC. We further affirm our commitment to meaningful relationships with our missionary family (1 Cor 12).

To accomplish our Philosophy of Missions, Kilgore Bible Church is committed to the place of missions as foundational to its purpose for existence. KBC is further committed to foster an enthusiasm for, and desire to participate in, mission outreach within all age groups of the church including individuals and families.
